Witchety Grub Brown

Witchety Grub by Audrey Martin Napanangka
Audrey martin Napanangka is a well-known aboriginal artist in the patchwork and quilting arena. Most of her designs are colorful, neat and bold. In this artwork, Witchety Grub?, Audrey skillfully created the ideal bush environment with Witchety Grubs, honey ants, bush flowers, fruits etc. There are a number of different grubs available, depending on where from you collect them e.g. Witchety Grub from the Witchety bush, River red gum grub, Coolibah tree gum, Whitewood tree grub, Ironwood tree grub, Prickly wattle grub and Elephant Grub. The grubs are edible either raw or lightly cooked in hot ashes. They are sought out as a high protein food by Aboriginals. The raw grub tastes like almond or banana. The grub is an important insect food of the desert and has historically been a staple food in the diets of Aboriginal people
